Continent 7: Antarctica

Besides suffering through the harsh conditions of Antarctica, the research teams often come up against some seriously bad luck while out in the field. The Mount Erebus team not only has trouble landing at one of their sites, but once they do, their computer equipment begins to malfunction in the cold. While out at sea, the USS Coast Guard Polar Star is carving out a channel in the ice to escort supply tankers to the continent when the main engines experience a major malfunction, leaving the ship dead in the water. Meanwhile, 68 kilometres from Scott Base, in the Dry Valleys of Antarctica, a team mapping out the only part of the continent not covered in ice is dealing with significant winds that threaten to destroy their $80,000 drone.
